With the Vice Presidential election just a day away, CPI General Secretary D Raja on Monday announced full support for the INDIA bloc candidate, Justice B Sudershan Reddy, calling him the “most deserving candidate” of the current times.
Raja praised Reddy for his commitment to the Constitution and upholding constitutional morality and values. “The left parties are part of the INDIA Bloc, and we have extended our full support to Justice Sudershan Reddy. His election is crucial to safeguard the Indian Constitution and the soul of the nation,” he said.
The election, scheduled for September 9, will see a contest between Justice (Retd.) B Sudershan Reddy, backed by the INDIA bloc and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, and NDA’s nominee CP Radhakrishnan.
Ahead of the polls, Congress President and Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge will host a dinner for INDIA bloc MPs to reinforce unity and support for their VP candidate. The Bharatiya Janata Party has also organised ‘Sansad Karyalaya’ sessions to guide its MPs on the voting process.
The Vice Presidential post became vacant after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on July 21 due to health reasons. The election will be conducted via proportional representation and single transferable vote, as per Articles 64, 66, and 68 of the Constitution and the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act, 1952.
